StandUp Parenting focuses on our children’s strengths as well as those traits and behaviors that need to be corrected. It is a generally accepted truth that people respond to encouragement and acceptance more readily than to criticism and rejection. Therefore, when we want to elicit changes in our children’s attitudes and behaviors, we need to give attention to the things they are doing right at least as often as we attend to the unwanted behaviors and attitudes. We also need to give serious thought to our own values and how we model those values to our children.
